Have you noticed the beautiful public art in Timaru? Here’s a map to help you find these works, along with some fun challenges to enjoy along the way!
Start your journey at the Aigantighe Art Gallery’s Sculpture Garden on 49 Wai-iti Road, Timaru, featuring 13 stunning Mt. Somers stone sculptures created during an international Stone Carving Symposium in 1990. Many of Timaru’s public sculptures came through community initiatives like the Heartlands Sculpture Challenge, a competition that awarded winning pieces a permanent place in the district, while others were funded by the Aoraki Art Charitable Trust, and Phar Lap Trust, and personal gifts aimed at sharing art in our public spaces.
Thank you to everyone who gives their time and resources to support public art—it brings our town to life, fosters creativity, and connects us all, making Timaru a vibrant and inspiring place for everyone.
